Should you schedule a Papaya Comfort Visit™ for your pet?
Some dogs and cats equate seeing the vet with feeling stressed and scared. We're working to dismantle these negative associations with the Papaya Comfort Visit™, which is designed to create a positive association between your pet and their care team. Building this mutually beneficial relationship makes future, more urgent trips to the vet easier for everyone involved: pets, their people, and their veterinary care team.
Why did we create the Papaya Comfort Visit?
Dogs and cats have amazing memories. When you take them to the vet, they'll remember the tiniest details: what the exam room looked like, the particular smells they pick up on the walls and floors, and the sound of the veterinarian's footsteps coming down the hallway.
Unfortunately, many pets who have had negative experiences at the vet associate these sounds, smells, and sensations with feelings of stress and fear. This can make getting your companion the care they need extremely challenging—and could even impact your pet's long-term wellbeing.
So, we created the Papaya Comfort Visit to replace these negative memories with more positive ones. It ensures your pet gets the quality care they need and puts your pet's comfort level front and center. As a Fear Free Certified® veterinary clinic, we're always considering your pet's perspective.
What can your pet and you expect at a Papaya Comfort Visit?
A Papaya Comfort Visit takes out all of the not-so-fun parts of a typical veterinarian appointment: there's no standing on a cold, slippery scale, no nail trimming, and absolutely none of that temperature taking.
Instead, your pet and you can expect a warm welcome, ample behind-the-ear scratches and cuddles, and an endless supply of treats. That way, your dog or cat will remember their veterinary clinic as the place where they see their friends and get special treats.
Depending on your pet's personality, they might not need a Papaya Comfort Visit. Some pets are perfectly happy and relaxed on a trip to the vet. For cats and dogs who are more stressed, however, a Papaya Comfort Visit can be a total game-changer.
What are the benefits of a Comfort Visit?
- Your pet gets to know their care team. That way, whether it's a routine check-up or an emergency, they'll know the people taking care of them. This familiarity can ease some of the stress and anxiety dogs and cats experience at the vet—particularly if they're feeling ill or vulnerable.
- Your care team gets to know your pet. A Comfort Visit is equally helpful for the people caring for your pet! During these visits, they can learn a little more about your pet's unique personality, what snacks are their favorites, and any other quirks to inform future interactions.
- They can explore the environment without stress. Animals are highly sensitive to their surroundings, and an unfamiliar environment with strange noises and smells can quickly increase stress. Of course, the clinic won't feel like home but an early introduction can ensure later visits aren't as scary.
A Papaya Comfort Visit can be an important first step in making vet visits much better for your pet, their care team, and you. We're looking forward to seeing you soon!
