FAQs

Do you accept walk-ins or drop-offs?

Yes. We welcome same-day walk-ins and drop-offs because we understand that things happen last minute. If possible, please call ahead so our team can prepare for your pet’s arrival.

Can I reschedule my appointment?

You can reschedule by replying to your confirmation email/text or by calling your Papaya Veterinary Care location directly. Our team will help you find the next available time that works for you.

Should I get pet insurance?

We highly recommend considering pet insurance to help cover unexpected medical costs. There are many plan options, so choose one that fits your pet’s age and lifestyle.

Can you provide travel certificates for my pet?

Yes, Papaya Veterinary Care can help with travel certificates. Our Carmel Valley hospital handles both domestic and international certificates, while our Culver City location offers domestic certificates only. Travel certificates are not available at our Encinitas Emergency hospital. Please contact your preferred location in advance so we can guide you through the requirements and timeline for your destination.

How can I access or transfer my pet’s medical records?

For our general practice clients at Carmel Valley and Culver City, your pet’s medical records are always available through our secure online client portal. You can log in anytime to review visit notes, test results, and invoices.
If you’re transferring from another hospital, simply share their name with us — we’ll contact them directly to obtain your pet’s records and ensure a smooth transition.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept debit, credit, cash and Care Credit to make payments easy and flexible. Ask our team if you’d like information on financing options.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the first exam include?

Our veterinary team will perform a comprehensive nose-to-tail exam, including an evaluation of your pet’s oral health. Based on the exam findings, the doctor will develop a personalized treatment plan and may recommend additional diagnostics tailored to your pet’s specific needs. We’ll take the time to explain why these tools are important to ensure your pet receives the highest quality care.

Yes. We offer integrative options such as acupuncture, laser therapy, and cryotherapy at select locations. These can complement traditional treatments to promote healing and comfort—ask your veterinarian if they’re appropriate for your pet.

During onsite visits, our doctors can prescribe and dispense medications for your pet. For refills, you can use our online pharmacy for home delivery. If you have an urgent need, our team will coordinate with you to ensure prompt care.

Urgent care is for non-life-threatening conditions that need prompt attention, like minor injuries, vomiting, or ear infections. Emergencies involve critical or life-threatening situations requiring advanced care—our emergency hospital handles both when needed.

Although we don’t offer grooming, we can trim nails, sanitary clips, do ear cleans, and offer anal gland expression for your pet. Unfortunately, we don’t offer boarding services in any of our hospitals at this time.
