What if your pet isn’t critically ill but still needs to be seen promptly for an unexpected injury or illness—and your primary care veterinarian isn’t available? At Papaya Veterinary Care in Encinitas, we’ve got you covered.
Urgent care provides treatment for issues that should receive medical attention but aren’t necessarily life-threatening. Because we’re open 24/7, we can help.
What conditions are appropriate for urgent care?
In general, pets that are in stable condition but can’t wait for an appointment with their regular veterinarian should be seen at our urgent care clinic. The types of conditions that warrant urgent care include:

- Blood in urine or stool
- Ear infections
- Irritated eyes (tearing, discharge, redness)
- Limping
- Loss of appetite
- Minor bites, wounds and injuries, such as porcupine quills
- Ticks, fleas, worms, mites, etc.
- Torn toenail, paw pad abrasion
- Vomiting, diarrhea, constipation
