Vaccinations at Papaya Veterinary Care in Carmel Valley, San Diego

Vaccinations protect your pet—as well as other animals and even the humans they interact with—from contagious and potentially deadly diseases, enabling them to live longer and healthier lives. That’s why puppies and kittens should receive a series of vaccinations starting in the first few months of life.

What’s more, vaccinations can help prevent costly treatments for preventable diseases, some of which can be life-threatening.

Here at Papaya Veterinary Care in Carmel Valley, our experienced veterinarians can advise you on the vaccination protocol your pet should follow depending on their age, lifestyle and overall health.

What vaccinations does my pet need?

While your veterinarian will advise you on the specific vaccinations that are appropriate for your pet, in general:

Dogs should be immunized against DHPP (canine distemper, infectious hepatitis, parainfluenza, parvovirus), leptospirosis, and rabies. We also recommend the oral Bordetella vaccine, so your dog can engage socially with other dogs and be protected.

Cats should be immunized against FVRCP (feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia), and rabies. We may also recommend the vaccine against feline leukemia virus, depending on your pet’s age and risk factors.
