Our clinic offers vaccinations for dogs and cats, both young and old. We offer newborn puppy/kitten immunizations, rabies vaccinations as well as distemper vaccinations for cats.

What does the appointment entail?

When your pet arrives for their cat or dog vaccination clinic visit, they'll be welcomed into a cheerful, calming space where the number one priority is their well-being—emotional as well as physical.

At Papaya Pet Care, everything we do stems from our Fear Free® philosophy dedicated to reducing pet anxiety and stress. The core of our approach is to see the veterinary experience from your pet's point of view. Just like people, pets have distinct personalities and respond differently to new environments and interactions. A Fear Free® experience is designed to meet your dog or cat on their terms so they feel safe and happy throughout their visit. This philosophy is reflected in the design of our clinics, which feature species-specific exam rooms, pheromone diffusers for stress reduction, and even special Consult Rooms for sensitive pets who need the extra care and attention of our Papaya Comfort Visits™.

When do pets need vaccines?

When do pets need vaccines?

Because diseases such as kennel cough, canine influenza, lyme disease, and others can strike at any time, it's important that pets are protected when they're young, and that an adult cat or adult dog vaccination schedule is maintained as they age, so they stay protected throughout their lives. Most initial disease vaccinations should happen within the first three or four months of your pet's life. The need for adult cat and dog boosters or vaccinations depends on factors such as age, medical history, and lifestyle, but they are generally administered annually or three years after the first vaccine is administered.

Why do pets need vaccines?

Cat and dog vaccines are a key factor in supporting the health and longevity of your pets, protecting them against a range of contagious, potentially threatening diseases. For example, vaccinations are the first line of defense against the danger of cat distemper. The rabies vaccine for dogs can save lives.

Some vaccines, called core vaccines, are highly recommended by veterinary professionals for all pets regardless of health or lifestyle. Other non-core vaccines may be recommended by your vet based on your dog or cat's individual medical history. Both play an important role in helping your pets enjoy healthier—and longer—lives.

What's the timeline for cats & dogs to get a vaccine?

Pets should receive their first kitten and puppy vaccines when they are six to eight weeks old. They will then need at least three further vaccination appointments, with three to four weeks between each, before the final dose is administered at 16 weeks. A vaccination schedule for your adult pet vaccines can be planned in consultation with a veterinarian at your pet vaccination clinic, who can help determine whether your cat or dog should receive any necessary vaccines annually or less frequently.
