We always come back to the pet owners and pet’s perspective. Our delightfully inviting clinics and comforting approach helps our guest pets and pet parents feel totally at ease, leading to happier pets who enjoy healthier lives. It takes commitment, communication, and constant creativity. We offer emergency care services, urgent care and have in-house lab equipment. We understand you can’t plan for an emergency, and that’s why we offer overnight services and hospitalizations.
Our Encinitas emergency veterinary hospital and clinic is located just west of the I-5 freeway on Santa Fe Drive in the Santa Fe Plaza Shopping Center, across from Scripps Memorial Hospital.
During our days off and after work, our team loves to embrace the outdoor lifestyle that San Diego County offers. You can often find us cycling, hiking, surfing, indulging in wine tasting, camping, and simply relaxing on the beach. We share a common passion for animals and thrive in a collaborative environment. If you are looking for an elevated experience in Veterinary Care, you have come to the right place!
I’m a native of southern California and grew up in the Los Angeles area. I moved permanently to North County San Diego in 1999. Wanting to be a veterinarian since grade school, I achieved my goal when I graduated from Ross University in 1995.
Animals have always been my passion, and their safety and comfort my goal. I chose emergency and urgent care because it is where I can make the most immediate change to our pets well being. Our pets are our family members and best friends, and they improve the quality of our lives. They give us their love and trust unconditionally. It is my extreme pleasure and privilege to be there for them when they most need our help. At Papaya Veterinary Care’s first Emergency Hospital I’m overjoyed to be back in our North County San Diego community doing what I love. When not working, I enjoy traveling with my husband and two children, and spending time with the extended furry family: “Venus”, a mastiff mix, Leo and Tycho the feline trouble makers, the parrot “Joli”, 3 tortoises, and 6 koi fish.
Upon graduating, Dr. Brooks returned to the U.S. and worked as a general practitioner in Temecula, CA for about 18 months before starting to moonlight as an Emergency Veterinarian. Enjoying the challenges of emergency medicine, he transitioned to working full time as an emergency veterinarian in San Diego before accompanying his wife to Oahu to pursue her career as a veterinary medicine Criticalist. Returning to San Diego to raise his family; Dr. Brooks is excited for continuing to provide urgent care services and promoting preventative care, in particular dental health. When not at work he enjoys camping trips with his family, mountain biking, and home improvement projects.
I am a San Diego native and have been in veterinary medicine for the last 10 years. I have been working to provide the best care possible in General Practice, Urgent Care and Emergency Hospitals. I am a Registered Veterinary Technician and have spent most of my career and have special interest in Emergency. I enjoy the unpredictability and challenges being in Emergency brings and am excited to have the opportunity to serve the pets and families of our community. When not working, I spend most of my time with my two kids, husband and our furry friends Jax, Cash and Hank.
